Google, Microsoft, and xAI will allow the US government to review their new AI models
The Commerce Department’s CAISI says it will conduct pre-deployment evaluations and targeted research with major AI labs to better understand advanced model capabilities.
The Commerce Department’s Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI) announced partnerships with DeepMind, Microsoft, and xAI to evaluate new AI models before public release. CAISI said the work will focus on pre-deployment evaluations and targeted research intended to improve understanding of advanced AI capabilities and national security implications.
The Verge reports CAISI has conducted dozens of model assessments since 2024, and that existing arrangements with OpenAI and Anthropic have been updated as the White House considers expanding the evaluation program.
