US to safety test new AI models from Google, Microsoft, and xAI
The US Commerce Department will evaluate certain new AI tools and features ahead of public release under voluntary agreements with the companies.
The US Department of Commerce will evaluate some forthcoming AI tools and features from Google, Microsoft, and xAI before they are released publicly. The companies agreed to voluntarily provide their models for assessment through the Commerce Department’s AI Safety Institute, extending earlier voluntary arrangements designed to test systems, collaborate on research, and develop best practices for commercial AI.
